Joseph TuckersearchHIV Q&A

Answered by Dr. Joseph Tucker

This is a rare, but increasingly common question that I hear from HIV-infected individuals. Each clinical trial has its own specific eligibility criteria that guide who is excluded and may be potentially included in an individual trial. There are several sources of information that can help HIV-infected individuals learn more about ongoing HIV cure research:

  1. Your HIV doctor, especially if they are involved in HIV cure research,
  2. The U.S. National Institute of Health’s ClinicalTrials.gov database that serves as an inventory for any kind of clinical trial,
  3. The database of HIV cure clinical trials organized by the Treatment Action Group.

Given the complexity of ongoing HIV cure research, I would recommend that individuals first contact their primary HIV doctor about nearby trials underway.
