GibsonNecoRaúl Necochea obtained his Ph.D. in History from McGill University, and held a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health before joining UNC’s Department of Social Medicine. He is broadly interested in the history of medicine and science, global health, sexual and reproductive health, Latin America, science and technology studies, and the relations between developed and developing regions.  He is the author of A History of Family Planning in Twentieth Century Peru. He is presently researching the history of Mexican health policies for immigrants to the US, and the first engagements of African personnel in HIV/AIDS research.
