carissa-chuCarissa Chu is a 4th year medical student at UCSF. She completed her Doris Duke-funded clinical research project in Guangzhou, China, during 2013-2014 focused on the social science of an HIV cure as well as access to HCV treatment for people who inject drugs. Carissa graduated summa cum laude from UC San Diego in 2010 with a degree in Human Biology and Healthcare/Social Issues. Her interest in global health is centered around understanding healthcare disparities, with a particular focus on access to medical care in underserved communities. She has held numerous leadership positions on national global health advocacy committees and served as a health policy intern at amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research, in Washington D.C., from 2005 to 2006.
